Meet Chaka Coleman
Managing Principal, Obvion Consulting Group
Chaka graduated from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree and is licensed to practice law in Indiana. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. In addition to owning her own multi-client lobbying firm, Obvion Consulting Group, she also serves as the government affairs liaison and legal counsel to a statewide health system.
Prior to launching her own government affairs firm, Chaka was a part of a midsize law firm in Carmel where she still holds key relationships. She also previously served as the deputy city clerk for a fast-growing Indianapolis suburb and was a bailiff in the state’s largest court system. She began her early career in the private sector where she worked closely with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to overcome regulatory obstacles on behalf of clients.
Although Chaka is a mother to five, she remains very active in the community. She has served on the Carmel Plan Commission and the Carmel Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Human Relations. She is also a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and has served on the organization’s Board of Directors and Commission on Racial Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, whose mission is to increase opportunity within the legal field. Chaka currently serves as the treasurer of the Board of the Bishop Joseph D. Farris Senior Living Center which provides quality housing for seniors on the east side of Indianapolis.
She is a member of both the Government Affairs Society of Indiana and the National Black Professional Lobbyist Association. She is also a graduate of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy and Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series, which prepares women leaders across Indiana for public service. In her spare time Chaka enjoys publishing articles for the Indiana Lawyer, mentoring law students, and advancing common sense solutions to pressing issues.
